Spirits
There are two realms: the spirit and the physical.
Spirits will often cross to the physical world, whether it's just for a day or a week, or their whole lives. Some are just innocently exploring the other world, while some enter the physical realm to mess with its inhabitants. A few have been known to try to take control of humans in the past, or start fights. More often, a spirit seeks human worship and power than bloodshed, and some spirits even have whole religions dedicated to them. Some choose to "cross" to the physical realm through people's dreams or visions, particularly if the person is someone they are "guiding" (whether for fun or for a different purpose depends on the spirit). In this case, the spirits aren't actually in the physical world, but see it through the chosen person. Other spirits don't leave the spirit realm or show interest in the physical realm at all; it truly depends on the spirit. |
Most spirits are able to change forms at will. Every spirit has one basic form that they were born as, which most choose to remain in. However, the stronger the spirit is, the more forms they might have. A weak spirit might have only one form, but an average spirit can have two or three. How different the second or third form is from their original form will be dependent on how strong the spirit is. The most advanced spirits are able to change their forms completely and have many different forms, that they're more like shapeshifters than anything else.
All spirits have spirit magic, though a few are able to control elemental magic as well, especially if they have been in the physical world for a long time. The more "physical" a spirit becomes, the more likely it is they'll lose access to their spirit magic.
Spirits feed off of energy and emotions, which is why lots of spirits like to go to the physical realm or mess with (emotional) humans. Some will drain people of energy and move on, while others help humans in their goals to feel more uplifted emotions from the human; the latter is more like a partnership, and the spirit won't sap the human of all of their emotions.
Spirits are also known as creatures, monsters, demons, gods, or just "other" beings. It depends on how the spirit presents itself to humans. If they are just minding their own business, they might be called a spirit or creature. If they are causing chaos, humans will view them as monsters and demons. As stated above, others will be looked upon as gods in regions they frequented and/or controlled.
